DYNAMIC FIELDS
CREATING INCREASED EFFICIENCY

Do you like wasting your time? Me neither. The AMS360 Customer Setup page needed an update to increase efficiency of use of space and time.

Goal:

Increase the efficiency of filling out the Customer Setup form that has a large quantity of fields

  • eliminate fields based on each user's needs

  • organize based on subject matter

Role and Skills:

Product designer

  • conducted internal and external research

  • completed usability testing

  • designed high fidelity prototype and screens ready for Development team

Deliverable:

Redesigned form that includes only necessary  fields for each user's specific needs. Form allows for users to show all if desired.

CHANGING FIELDS

Users currently encounter entire sheets of fields in the Customer Setup page. I designed a dynamic sheet specific to each user's needs.

Each customer's needs are based on both:

  • one of three Customer Types

  • one of three Name Types

INTERNAL RESEARCH

I talked to a product manager and customer support analyst, both familiar with which users use which fields. From there, I mapped out which fields applied to the different "Type" and "Name" of users.

Comparison Between Two Types of Users

There are three "Types" and three "Names" - nine different combinations. I mapped out the different comparisons of a necessary, unnecessary, and optional fields.

EXTERNAL RESEARCH AND INSIGHTS

After taking in feedback from my design team and members of the product team, I created a prototype to present to users.

Each interview was a 45 minute individual calls with users from four different insurance agencies. We reviewed their typical journey of the current Customer Setup layout and discussed the new layout's positives and negatives.

Current Layout - Client Type_edited.png

Current Layout

  • Fields have arbitrary positions, which is confusing

  • All fields are showing

  • Not all fields apply to each Type and Name, wasting time

  • Page real estate is not utilized

Updated Layout - Prototype

  • Fields are grouped and organized by likeness

  • Groups have descriptive names

  • Page real estate is utilized

  • Users liked having the option to show all fields in each section

MOVE TO DYNAMIC FIELDS

After interviewing users about their personal usage and their employees' usage, I found the pattern that many fields are unnecessary.

I decided to create an option that allows users to hide any fields or sections they do not need. This can always be changed by the user if their needs and preferences change.
